Glenn Ryan played for Kildare from 1991 to 2006 and is indeed one of the iconic figures in Kildare football. He will feature in the Laochra Gael programme on Thursday 4th April at 8.00pm on TG4. In the programme he speaks of the excitement which swept the county with Mick O'Dwyer's appointment as Manager initially in 1990 and how he got the call up to the senior panel although still a minor. He maintains that lack of experience cost them against Dublin in the early years and will forever be grateful to Dermot Earley who broke with tradition in appointing him as captain in the mid 1990s. ![]() The Leinster Final of that year and again in 2000 when he had the honour of lifting the trophy on both occasions are days he'll never forget, although he still thinks that one All-Ireland final appearance doesn't do justice to that great Kildare team. As well as Glenn himself, we hear contributions from Dermot Earley, Seán Ó Domhnaill and Dara Ó Cinnéide. The Laochra Gael - 'Glenn Ryan' programme will be repeated on Sunday afternoon 7th April at 17.55pm on TG4. |
