A decent crowd travelled to Two Mile House on Tuesday for what was to be a very entertaining game, albeit one sided at times. This game was also Kildangan's first encounter of the year against a team from the north of the county.

Kildangan started off in good stead when a free from Robert Hanley found Stephen Quigley who slotted it between the posts for the opener. Sallins responded with a point of their own two minutes later. The north Kildare side could have went pushed out in front with a goal shortly afterwards, the ball instead dropped straight into the hand of Kildangan's netminder Colin Christie.

Eric O'Hara was next on the scoresheet for the Barrowsiders with a fine point, assisted by Padraig Casey. The Sallins left half back received a black card for a pull on Casey. Almost three minutes passed before Quigley added another point for Kildangan. Richard Morgan pulled off a great block around the fifteen minute mark that held off Sallins briefly, but once they won the ball back, Sallins quickly managed to get the gap back to a single point. A goal chance came for the oppositon once again, but the Kildangan 'keeper tipped it over.

Robert Hanley and Dermot Hickey added points for Kildangan, before Ryan Moran's was on hand to score a goal from a rebound off the keeper, putting Kildangan two up. O'Hara and Hanley sent over their second point each. Tom Moran then got a point of his own to end the half 1-9 to 0-8 in Kildangan's favour.

The game resumed with a Sallins free around the middle of the field, and they would go on to win more as the second half went on. Robert Hanley converted a free within a minute of the restart, keeping Kildangan ahead. Dermot Hickey added his first goal of the game only seconds later to really put the pressure on Sallins.

Sallins added their ninth point of the game through a free, but failed to add to their tally with two more frees in as many minutes. In the eleventh minute, Dermot Hickey added his second goal of his own to put Kildangan comfortably in front. Hanley then added his fourth, fifth and sixth points of the game in the following thirteen minutes without any interruption from Sallins. Padraig Casey sent over Kildangan's final score of the game with five minutes left. Sallins added a point of their own just before the end. This made little impact as Kildangan ran out 13 point winners; the final score 3-14 to Sallins' 0-10.

The attention of the Kildangan players and management now turns to round two against Ballymore Eustace, who beat Ellistown 1-10 to 1-9 in the opening fixture.
