Seniors Bow Out

Kildangan Seniors bowed out of the Championship with an eight point defeat by Ellistown on Sunday evening 10th August. The final scoreline of 2:12 to 1:07 tells it's own story however as always the team played right to the end.

Kildangan opened our account on six minutes with a pointed free from Robert Hanley, added to on the next move with a Pauric Casey point. Kildangan then went three to the good with an Eric O'Hara point.

Fifteen minutes elapsed before Ellistown recorded their first point, two more Ellistown points and the sides were level.  Ellistown goaled with their next move.

Robert Hanley again got his name on the score-sheet with a well taken point, before, in the move of the half, and indeed the game, Tom Moran put Eric O'Hara through with a fabulous pass, which Eric volleyed to the Ellistown net.  A further Ellistown point left the sides level at half time.

However, what could be considered a harsh red card as half time approached left Kildangan all to do in the second half.

On the resumption an Ellistown point was cancelled by Ruadhri Jacob. Kildangan then went one ahead through the boot of Stephen Quigley. Ellistown were surviving on pointed frees, the next three points were theirs, all well struck efforts.

Kildangan were just keeping in touch until a dipping ball deceived the Kildangan keeper, and ended up in the net. With the score now 2:09 to 1:06 and numerical advantage Ellistown could afford to shut up shop. Kildangan tried hard, the remaining Kildangan score of the half was a point by Ryan Moran. Ellistown added a further three to their tally, leaving the scoreline 2:12 to 1:07 at the final whistle.

Kildangan could be considered unlucky, on the night decisions went against us at vital times. However, the new blood introduced to the senior team certainly augurs well for the future, this team has plenty of potential, and they did Kildangan, themselves, and their families proud on the day and throughout the championship.

With the Senior season ending  all that remains is to thank the manager, selectors, physios, players and supporters for everything in 2014.  Some of the younger guys will go on to contest an Under 16 semi-final and the minor championship under the Barrow Gaels banner and there is no better way to encourage them and secure the future of Kildangan GAA than by going to the games and cheering them on.
