Seniors Start League With Home Win

Following the postponement of the Division 3A league opener away to Ellistown last week, Kildangan welcomed Milltown to More O'Ferrall Park this evening, and recorded their first win of the year in the opening round of the League with a 6-10 to 1-8 victory.

On a perfect evening for football, our lads took to the field with a mixture of youth and experience and they combined both well over the hour. Midfielder Luke Barry opened the scoring before the visitors hit us for a goal and point in quick succession but Ryan Moran responded by rattling the Milltown net twice in the space of the next five minutes.

With the visitors dominating around the middle of the field, our defence was under constant pressure and Jordan Kaye outstanding during this period to prevent further scores. Defenders Bryan Adams and Conor Mulholland got forward for points before Milltown replied with some good scores from distance. A Ryan Moran point made it 2-4 to 1-4 as we neared half time but good play between Conor Mulholland and Robert McGrath put Phillip Ryan through for a cracking goal to extend our lead. A final Moran point made it 3.5 to 1.4 at the break.

Milltown’s resolve disappeared early in the second half as another Ryan Moran goal and two from Kevin Christie left them well out of sight. The same two players added points before Milltown showed their spirit hitting the last three points of the game as it finished 6-10 to 1-8 in our favour.

We played some great football during the course of the game and there’s plenty to work on for our next game away to Nurney next Monday evening. Well done to all involved.
